    Choosing Your Solids Flow Meter

    Gravimetric solids flow measurement offers greater control and long term accuracy than alternatives such as volumetric scales and feeders, but not all gravimetric flow meters achieve the same level of accuracy and control. While both weigh belts and loss-in-weight feeders are gravimetric devices, they too are prone to error with even slight variations in particle size and density. The key to achieving the best results with a gravimetric solids measurement device is the proper presentation of material to the measurement surface in a way that maximizes measurement surface contact (for higher accuracy) and keeps the measurement surface filled (as a method of self-cleaning). Utilizing the patented CentriFlow® Technology Eastern Instruments' Solids Flow Measurement Product Line offers accurate, cost-effective and simple solutions for your process measurement needs.


    Nothing Too Light

    The CentriFlow® Meter can be used to measure a variety of products ranging in size, shape, elasticity and even density. The accuracy of the CentriFlow® is remarkable even on products with extremely low densities such as shredded plastic bags. With a density of around 1 or 2 lb/ft3 and a flow rate of under 5,000lb/hr, this product may seem too light to measure, but our LDM-Low Density CentriFlow® Meter makes it possible.

    Nothing Too Heavy

    Not only can we measure extremely light materials like shredded bags, but we can also measure extremely dense materials and at extremely high flow rates. Iron Ore can exceed 160 lb/ft3 and can reach flow rates of nearly 500 Tons/hr in some mining processes, but densities and flow rates of this magnitude are easily handled by our newly expanded solids flow measurement product line.

    Nothing Too...

    We can accurately measure both extremely light and extremely dense materials, but some of the materials that we have measured do not fit so nicely into categories. One such material is ground animal remains including bone, tissue and hair. Another material we have measured is partially dried fish meal, comprised of fish that have been pressed and ground in order to extract fish oil from them. Although these materials are irregular in size, shape and density, Eastern Instruments can measure them, enabling your process to continue running smoothly, accurately and efficiently.

  • The CentriFeeder MCV is a gravimetric device that works by integrating the flow measurement accuracy of a CentriFlow solids mass flow meter with the flow controlling capabilities of an Integrated Slide Gate. Combined into a single, multifunctioning weigh feeder, the MCV both measures the flow rate and total of the product that runs through it, but also controls the flow rate and total to a predetermined setpoint. As product flows through the MCV and over the curved measurement pan, the instantaneous flow rate is measured and used, via a PID control loop, to modulate the Integrated Control Valve. Because the CentriFeeder MCV is able to respond to changes in flow rate within 100 ms and can typically be within +/-1.00% of the flow set-point within 1 second, it offers a perfect alternative to conventional Loss-in-Weight feeders. The result is an extremely accurate way to measure and control the flow of any granular product such as pellets, grains, fertilizers and more.

  • Mass Flow Measurement of Granular Solids

    The CentriFlow BWS from Eastern Instruments, is a gravimetric in-line mass flow meter which measures continuous flow based on the principle of centripetal force. The BWS will measure the flow of any grain or pellet continuously as it passes through the meter.

    With a typical accuracy of +/-1.0% the CentriFlow BWS is a simplified mass flow meter that greatly minimizes cost by integrating the electronics of the meter directly into the meter module's design. The electronics, which features a 4" color, touchscreen HMI, is mounted directly to the rear of the flow meter for easy accessibility and a simplified installation.



    The unique gravimetric design of the CentriFlow BWS allows this model of CentriFlow to achieve a 1.00% accuracy full scale on virtually all granular flowable solids.


    The CentriFlow Meter is not affected by changes in product elasticity, density, shape or friction. Fluctuations in flow rate don't impact it's accuracy. The CentriFlow BWS has the ability to measure at various densities and turndown ratios while maintaining a very high accuracy.


    The BWS comes with sturdy high-grade Carbon Steel/Stainless Steel flow paths and the Enclosure is made of 3/16" Painted Carbon Steel for structural integrity. The meter can be mounted directly, via the enclosure itself.


    With a simplified design that integrates the electronics and meter module, installation is extremely simple. The integrated electronics are mounted directly to the rear of the CentriFlow BWS for easy calibration.


    The CentriFlow® Meter maintains its accuracy with a maximum 20 to 1 turndown capability based on volumetric capacity.

    What is the Railcar and Truck Loadout System from Eastern Instruments?

    Eastern Instruments' Railcar and Truck Loadout System is designed to integrate directly into an existing loadout process. A CentriFlow Mass Flow Meter will mount directly after your existing shut off device, such as a slide gate, screw conveyor or rotary valve and typically only requires 3 feet of vertical space for installation. A total fill for each compartment will be entered into the CentriFlow Meter's electronics via the Loadout System's setup page. Automatic mode allows you to set up the entire rail car at once, while manual mode allows you to set up each compartment independently. The flow meter will measure the flow rate and total of product entering the railcar. When the total approaches the total fill for the compartment, the Loadout System will signal your PLC to stop flow automatically.



    Typical installations require only 3 feet of vertical height and can be set up and running within a single day. 


    Manual Mode allows for customized control of individual fill cycles, while Automatic Mode allows for automatic sequencing of complex, multi-compartment fills. 


    The CentriFlow Meter is made of Anodized Aluminum and Stainless Steel components (All Stainless Steel models are available) and can be mounted outdoors directly in the elements. Various flow surfaces are available for the meter, including ceramic tile lined flow surfaces for especially abrasive materials. 


    Can be used to fill both railcars and trucks with nearly any product that is being transported via gravity, including pellets, powders, grains and more. 


    The unique fill algorithm that determines when to shut off the feed of product into the railcar/truck works independently of flow rate and will ract dynamically to changes in flow rate, even when flow rate changes during the fill. 


    The fill accuracy of the Railcar and Truck Loadout System can be as accurate as +/-0.25%. 


    The Railcar and Truck Loadout System is universal in design and can be used for nearly any setup where trucks or railcars are being filled.


    The Loadout System comes with a color touchscreen HMI interface so that setup and use of the system is as easy as the push of a button.
