Protecting Your Process Against Explosions Since 1956

Profile

IEP Technologies™ is the worldwide leader in providing explosion protection solutions for the processing industry. For over 60 years we have offered protection solutions that can suppress, isolate and vent combustible dust or vapor explosions. IEP Technologies operates globally with locations in the U.S., UK, EU, Latin America and Asia designing and servicing systems with a dedicated team of application engineers, regional sales managers and field engineers.

  • The IEP Technologies eSUPPRESSOR™ is a high-rate discharge suppressor used for explosion suppression and isolation systems. Its electro-mechanical operation is unique to the industry, as no pyrotechnic devices are required for activation. The
eSUPPRESSOR has standard features that include pressure monitoring, lock out tag out capability and LED indication of device status. A key benefit is that all the safety functions are fully monitored, which is impossible for any device employing
pyrotechnic actuators. The eSUPPRESSOR design and manufacture has SIL2 third party certification.

Upon detection of an explosion event, the Explosion Protection Control Unit sends anactuation signal to the eSUPPRESSOR valve mechanism. The highly specified trigger mechanism allows the valve flap to open extremely rapidly (less than 10ms), which allows the suppressant to be discharged through the nozzle system into the protectedvolume.

    Description

    • Unsurpassed reliability due to continuous monitoring of all safety functions
    • Electromechanical actuation
    • Monitored Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO)
    • Cylinder pressure monitoring with temperature compensation
    • Non-explosive operation increases safety and reduces storage, licensing, and transportation concerns.
    • Third-party certification to SIL-2
    • Can be mounted on existing IEP flanges to potentially replace all members of IEP’s existing family of suppressors
    • Integrated LEDs to indicate suppressor status
    • Valve housing: IP67, NEMA 4x Rated for dust and gas hazardous locations
    • Transportation licenses: TPED and UN-DOT

The IEP Technologies eSUPPRESSOR is designed to discharge suppressant in milliseconds within a process vessel or to mitigate the propagation of flame through interconnected ductwork. It is used in conjunction with IEP Technologies’ range of control panels and detectors. IEP Technologies sophisticated computer modeling techniques determine the expected reduced explosion pressure (Pred) and the quantity and size of suppressors to be employed.

  • The IEP Technologies range of passive isolation flap valves is low-cost and reliable explosion isolation solution that mitigates explosion propagation risks to upstream equipment. These passive isolation solutions are effective self-actuating devices providing inlet explosion isolation to protected vessels handling combustible dust, such as dust collectors, cyclones, and other process equipment. Available models include the IsoFlap and IsoFlap-M isolation flap valves. The IsoFlap version is 3rd party certified as a protective system according to EU directive 2014/34/EU (Atex Directive) and is approved for the isolation of dust explosions. The IsoFlap-M has integrated monitoring of dust accumulation levels in the valve body and the blade position, which meets the requirements of OSHA Combustible Dust Directive, NFPA 654, and NFPA 69.

The IsoFlap and IsoFlap-M both have a durable carbon steel valve body and a flap blade of high-quality stainless steel alloy. The valve is designed to withstand high maximum reduced explosion pressures (Pred) listed in the specification below. During operation, the flap blade is held open by the process airflow; in case of an explosion, the pressure front closes and locks in place the blade, mitigating the propagation of the flame and pressure to the upstream equipment.

Available as an option is the IsoFlap-M Interface Module, a PCB-based system monitoring device designed for use with the IsoFlap-M version of the flap valve. The Interface Module includes intrinsically safe barriers for monitoring the IsoFlap-M sensors, provides for process interlock functions, and includes diagnostic and maintenance functions. The Interface Panel operates on either 120 or 230 VAC.

    Features

    • Passive design without triggering sensors
    • Certified according to EN16447
    • IsoFlap-M monitored version fully compliant to NFPA 69 with continuous dust accumulation and flap position monitoring
    • Low-pressure drop
    • Short mounting distances
    • Tested and approved to allow up to two elbows between IsoFlap and downstream vessel
    • Easy access through hinged inspection cover with gas spring-assisted cover opening for valves ≥DN630
    • Leak-tight design with bearing shaft internal to housing
    • The cylindrical housing design reduces product build-up
    • Corrosion-resistant design confirmed by salt spray corrosion test.

    Application:

Wherever a passive explosion isolation device is suitable, the IEP Technologies flap valve series IsoFlap offer a very cost-effective solution to mitigate the risk of
explosion propagation to connected equipment. When applying explosion protection methods such as venting or flameless venting, it is also necessary to reduce the risk of explosion propagation between interconnected process vessels. Here the IsoFlap valves offer effective, self-actuating explosion isolation to protected vessel handling combustible dusts. Typical applications for the IEP Technologies IsoFlap valve include inlet explosion isolation of dust collectors, cyclones, and other process equipment.
